How To: Mod your PS3 to have more USB ports

Mod your PS3 to have more USB ports

You can add USB ports to your PS3 at home. Put two new ports onto the back of your PS3 for a total of six ports to get even more out of your machine. You will need a basic knowledge of circuitry and some electrician equipment to do this the right way. This video will show you how to add USB ports to your PS3. Keep in mind that this video does not show you how to reassemble it so be sure to keep track of your work.

I modified my PS3 to have a rear USB port for my Playstation EYE. I looked all over the web for instructions on how to do this but couldn't find anything. So I just did it myself. Here are the results: 1. It works. 2. As long as you don't plug anything into the front USB port you've "borrowed" for the rear port, everything is fine. 3. If you plug something into the "borrowed" port, both peripherals stop working and you'll need to restart the PS3. 4. This setup cannot act like a true USB hub as it's just a pass-thru for one of the front ports. Since this setup is not optimal and I'd like at least 2 USB ports on the back of my PS3, I'm currently working on a new mod that will allow a true hub on the back eliminating the aforementioned limitations. UPDATE: THE NEW MOD IS NOW FINISHED, PLEASE SEE THE NEW VIDEO.
