What can you do with your egg cartons after you are done using up all the eggs? The compartmentalized spaces used for storing eggs are also perfect to use as seed starters, DIY candle makers, paint palettes, and for storing similarly fragile or round objects like Christmas ornaments and golf balls. The sturdy, lightweight material of styrofoam egg cartons are also ideal to use as cheap packing material and an alternative to packing peanuts.
If you ever need to start a fire for a campfire or in your fireplace, use cardboard egg cartons as fire starters. Simply stuff the egg cup with dryer lint, pour melted wax on top, and tear off the individual egg cup.

I hear they're also good for super-cheap soundproofing for your walls. I'm thinking of trying it out, but I don't really eat that many eggs!

Doesn't work unfortunately, the only two things that really stop sound are distance and mass. Egg cartons can be used as rudimentary sound diffusers, but in terms of sound proofing it's a little more complicated.

I heard the same thing. At most it sort of dulls the sound or just makes the sound bounce around differently, but egg cartons are not ideal for sound-proofing. Also, all those egg cartons would totally make your DIY studio a major fire hazard!
Hmm. I guess I shouldn't have said soundproofing. I'm just looking to diffuse the sound coming from our adjoining wall. But maybe I should rethink the egg cartons, cause I don't want a anechoic chamber! Maybe just something cheap with decent mass, like a carpet or tapestry. I have zilch on the wall right now, so I figure anything will help muffle it a little. Right?
I would be more concerned about fire safety with all those egg cartons on the walls. They do make good fire starters.
